new blooms

last month we planted pansies and we had a couple of doves who decided it made a great nest... can't they be content with the enormous tree right next to the flower bed?! this picture was snapped just as the second dove flew away - it was kind of sweet, but i really didn't want dove poo all over our front entry... for a month the flower bed was just dead crusty leaves, so we decided to finally re-plant!

so last post i mentioned that tim & i went to buy flowers for our front porch (from a cool family-owned place, harper's nurseries) since we don't have too much space, it's just a few new buds, but here they are! and this time the plants aren't getting mashed and mangled by the doves.

the first is a 'gnome purple' flower (gomphrena globosa) - so different, but so pretty! i just love the color of the flower and the purple/green leaves.

the other we bought is a type of succulent, 'pork & beans' (sedum rubrotinctum), and it's so cute - it wiggled like jello in the car on the drive home. for some reason it reminds me of zoidberg from futurama :)

i've kept these alive for a week now... let's see how long i can keep it up!
