new year, new job!

well, after months (literally) of working on it, i am finally getting a promotion! you are now looking at an assistant manager, thank you very much.
it started in early november, when my current manager told me that he had been talking with the market team, and they all felt that i was ready to move up. there was an AM position opening, and that i should post my application for it. so i did. a week later, i got an email from HR that said, hooray! we liked your application, so we want you to move forward with the process! take this personality assessment, so that we can have a computer decide if you are capable of proper human interaction. so i took it. and i got a reply - hooray! you passed the assessment! 100%, in fact, which is very rare! congrats - you are, indeed, capable of normal human interactions, and at an unusually high level! so we want to have a phone interview next. so i did. and the HR recruiter asked all of those STAR (situation, task, action, result) questions that you learn how to properly answer in college. "tell me about a time when..." kind of stuff. and i passed! hooray again! so now i need to take an online coaching assessment. oh geez. really? do these computers have all the right answers? but anyways, i must've done well, because now i need to have a market interview. so i went there, and met with one of the market leaders, and we talked for about 30 minutes about some STAR related topics, as well as my ability to do the job they're asking me to take on. and i tell him, i can do it. i am ready. so my next call from HR is good too - market liked me! now i have to meet the manager at the store they want me at, and interview with her. wow - this is a long process... have you been keeping up? i am now on step 6 of the potential promotion. and it went good too. but that happened the week after christmas. and all of HR is on vacation and/or end-of-year turnover. so no news. for a week and a half. then wednesday, i got an email from the recruiter, that said, "when can we connect? i have some great news to share with you." but we were slammed that day, and i couldn't get to her. thursday we talked, and they made an offer, and i counter-offered, and we compromised. phew! done and done! lots of waiting and lots of work to get here, but it's finished.
and now i'm an assistant manager.
i'd hate to apply for ceo.
